Student Employment Adjunct Instructor Graduate Teaching Fellow

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Students who are interested in physical activity and sport are good candidates for the many part-time jobs generated by the large variety of programs and services offered by PE & REC and in the operation of facilities.

Students may apply for any of the more than 150 positions, employing 200 to 250 students each academic year in a variety of areas.

Positions include: Lifeguards, Office Assistants and Sports Officials in Recreational Sports, Rec Techs, Equipment Issue Supervisors, and SRC Student Staff. Lifeguards must have current certification; training is provided for other positions.

These positions are primarily filled by Work-Study and and Tech Fee students.

ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR POSITIONS

Physical Education and Recreation generally hires 2 to 8 Adjunct Instructors each term from its applicant pool. Adjunct Instructors are individuals from the community who possess a Bachelor's degree, specific sports skills, and the ability to teach. All appointments are less than half time. The current salary structure begins at $605 per class per term, and depends on qualifications and experience.

Instructors are hired to teach a variety of classes as specified on the List of PE Courses document.

GRADUATE TEACHING FELLOW POSITIONS

PE & REC employs GTF's to fulfill specific responsibilities:

  • Recreational Sports (Rec Sports) responsibilities include team scheduling for intramurals, organizing officials, leading fitness workouts, special events and tournaments. Positions may have responsibility for hiring, training and supervising student employees, organizing events, develoing and implementing programs.

GTF Salary and Benefits

Graduate Teaching Fellows receive a salary ranging from approximately $3,274 to $9,570 per academic year. Graduate Teaching Fellows with a minimum of .20 full-time equivalency (FTE) receive a tuition waiver for the first 16 credits of coursework each term of the appointment. FTE may vary from term to term. Graduate Teaching Fellows are assessed non-instructional fees currently set at $221.50 per term. Most appointments are at .20 FTE ($3,274).

Eligibility Requirements

A. Graduate School

  • Admission to a graduate degree program as a regular student.
  • Register for and complete 9 credit hours of graduate work per term.
  • Satisfactory progress toward a graduate degree.

B. Physical Education and Recreation

  • Strong physical activity background preferred.
  • Organizational skills and experience in officiating or training officials.
  • Recreational sports/Intramural programming experience
  • Current CPR/Universal Precautions Certification and First Aid Certification required .

  • The PE & REC Graduate Teaching Fellowship Application
  • Resume and letter of application
  • Two letters of recommendation from professionals attesting to your ability to work with intramural programming, officials, etc.
  • Documentation that you have been fully admitted into a graduate program at the UO.
  • Applicants are encouraged to submit materials as soon as possible. Appointments are made as qualified applications are received. GTF appointments are generally completed by April 15 for the following academic year.
