PEMA 115 SELF DEFENSE
Credits: 1
Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: None
Content: We will be covering the three A's of Self Defense: Awareness, Assessment and Action. The main theme in the class will be prevention. We will be working with a partner in class to create different situations for physical response.
PEMA 116 WOMEN'S SELF DEFENSE

Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Beginner
Prerequisite: None
Content: We will be covering the 3 A's of Self Defense: Awareness, Assessment and Action. The main theme will be prevention. We will be with a partner in class to cover some physical situations. This will be geared toward women.
PEMA 121 AIKIDO 1

Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: None
Content: Basic falls, throwing, blending, attacks and defenses. You will increase your understanding of the body, flexibility and balance, as well as exploring concepts of aggression and self defense.
PEMA 122 AIKIDO 2

Level: Intermediate
Prerequisite: Beginning experience
Content: Refinement of basic falls, throwing, blending, attacks and defenses. You will increase your understanding of the body, flexibility and balance, as well as further exploring concepts of aggression and self defense.
PEMA 123 AIKIDO 3

Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Advanced
Prerequisite: Intermediate experience
Content: Refinement of basic falls, throwing, blending, attacks and defenses. You will increase your understanding of the body, flexibility and balance, as well as exploring advanced concepts of aggression and self defense.
PEMA 211 FENCING 1
Credits: 1-2
Format: Varies
Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: None
Content: introduces fencing to people who have never fenced before. Rules, technique, and strategy are taught so that by the end of the course people and can fence and preside foil bouts. The course comprises footwork drills, attacks, parries, and sparring. Equipment is provided.
PEMA 212 FENCING 2

Prerequisite: Fencing 1 or equivalent
Content: advanced level fencing course. It develops the skills taught in Fencing I and builds on them by adding more complex foil skills to the repertoire of actions. Equipment is provided.

Content: Our advanced fencing course, this is a continuation of Fencing 2 which includes additional bouting skills, strategies and techniques.
PEMA 214 ITALIAN LONG SWORD 1

Content: The study of Medieval Italian Long Sword is one of today's most popular Historical European Martial Arts, systems of personal defense as fascinating and complex as those found in Asian Martial Arts. Learn guards, attacks and defenses in partner drills directly from original medieval martial arts manuals.

Content: This fencing course covers intermediate to advanced skills and strategies of Long Sword (see above). A continuation of the Level I class.
PEMA 221 KARATE 1

Content: Shot Kan Karate is known for its step-by-step progression and foundation work, whether it is in Eugene, Tokyo, or Paris. Yes, we do punch, kick and block, which anyone can do, but what we study is how to make a stronger punch and a faster kick with our use of Foundation work and KIME.
PEMA 222 KARATE 2

Prerequisite: Karate 1 or equivalent
Content: KARATE II level is a continuing study of Foundation (body dynamics) work with an emphasis on awareness in relationship to two attackers at once while physically developing coordination and strength movements.
PEMA 223 KARATE 3

Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: Karate 2 or equivalent
Content: KARATE III level will be working on Foundation work with more emphasis on internal body compression and correct breathing, while adding more complex combinations and developing more speed when punching, blocking and kicking.
PEMA 241/242 JUDO 1/2

Prerequisite: None for Judo 1; Judo 1 or equiv. for Judo 2
Content: In the study of Judo, you will learn techniques in falling, throwing and grappling to aid in self defense. Judo will improve your strength, agility and overall aerobic capacity. Judo utilizes virtually every muscle of the body and is an excellent overall conditioner. This discipline promotes a confidence that affects one's entire life.
PEMA 251 TAE KWON DO 1

Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: None
Content: Tae Kwon Do translates into "The Way of the Hand and Foot." It is a Korean martial art of bare hand combat utilizing kicking, punching and striking. As a form of self defense, Tae Kwon Do teaches you a complete and effective means by which you can protect yourself and those in need. It is an excellent physical conditioner. This art also stresses the value of self-discipline, respect for others and strength of character.
PEMA 255 KICKBOXING

Format: Two 50-minute sessions
Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: None
Content: This class combines the best Martial Arts from around the world including Thai Kickboxing, Western Boxing, Savate and more. We will be training feet, hands, knees and elbows, as well as kickboxing-specific conditioning. No experience necessary.
PEMA 311/312 JEET KUNE DO 1 & 2

Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Beginning-intermediate
Prerequisite: None for level 1: 311 or equiv. for level 2
Content: Jeet Kune Do is a combative activity that incorporates striking, kicking, grappling, limb immobilization techniques, and weaponry. The class will cover the conceptual basis and history of JKD and Filipino martial arts. Safety and prevention of injury are stressed. JKD was Bruce Lee's art of choice.
PEMA 321/322 JIU-JITSU 1 & 2
Credits: 1
Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Beginning-intermediate
Prerequisite: None for level 1; 321 or equiv. for level 2
Content: Jiu-Jitsu is a combative activity that incorporates exercises, throwing and falling techniques, grappling, escapes, holds, and learning to maintain a safe position. Safety and prevention of injury are stressed. This class emphasizes a Jiu-Jitsu born on the streets of Brazil.
