PERU 101 - FITNESS WALKING
Credits: 1
Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: None

Content: An introductory, recreational fitness course that is designed to increase cardiovascular endurance and emphasizes walking with ease, efficiency and enjoyment. Students will walk varied routes near campus and will learn to set up personal workout programs.

PERU 131 JOG/RUN
Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Credits: 1
Level: Beginning
Prerequisite: None

Content: This is an introductory course where emphasis is placed on executing proper running mechanic s, increasing one's cardio-respiratory endurance and learning about injury prevention. Various training methods are introduced. Students experience base-building and speed workouts. They also run various courses in the campus area.

PERU 331 5K TRAINING
Credits: 1
Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Intermediate-advanced
Prerequisite: 131 or equiv. Run 3 miles comfortably & injury free

Content: This class is designed for participants who have established a running base and now want to increase their speed and prepare for road races. Workouts employ the following training methods: intervals, repeats, fartlek and hill runs. Distance runs increase from 3 to 5 miles.

PERU 332 - 5K TRAINING 2
Credits: 1
Format: Two 50-minute sessions per week
Level: Advanced
Prerequisite: 331 or equiv. run 4 miles at 8 min. pace, injury free

Content: This course is designed for participants who want to improve their 5K road races. There is an increase in mileage and speed work. Workouts include intervals, fartlek, tempo runs and hills. Runs take you to Hendricks Park, Masonic and Pioneer cemeteries and various running trails.

PERU 341 - 10K TRAINING
Credits: 2
Format: Two 100-minute sessions per week
Level: Advanced
Prerequisite: 332 or equiv. run 6 miles at 8 min. pace, injury free

Content: This course is designed for the more experienced runner who wants base building, longer runs, longer speed workouts and wants to learn stategies for longer races. Runs take place around campus and on various routes throughout the city.
